DHL Data & Analytics is a service line in DHL Group, focusing on leveraging data to create business value. It consists of a dynamic, innovative, and globally diverse team with approximately 120 talented professionals, including Data Engineers, Cloud Engineers, DevOps Engineers, Data Scientists and Architects. With presences in Singapore and Italy, Bonn serves as DHL Data & Analytics headquarter. The team’s purpose is to unleash the power of data science, drive x-Business Unit AI solutions, foster a data-driven culture, and accelerate digitalization within DHL Group. As part of its work, the team is responsible for creating and maintaining robust data platforms and data pipelines to ensure accurate and efficient data processing and analysis. The team embraces diversity with over 20 nationalities represented and a 30% female workforce, fostering collaboration and the pursuit of excellence.


How will you contribute to the success of DHL Data & Analytics?


DHL has set up a global big data architecture as part of the Group’s digitalization agenda. In this context, we are looking for a strategic and innovative tech leader further developing DHL Group’s Data & Analytics platforms.


You will:

  • Advise on the establishment of Big Data solutions, including Lakehouse and Data Engineering, leveraging the latest technology trends for the Group.
  • Actively shape, define and refine the service offerings around cloud data platforms and engineering solutions as technologies evolve and advance.
  • Drive innovation that significantly enhances the functionality of Data Lakes Platforms while developing group-wide standards and divisional roadmaps.
  • Contribute to business development by driving architectural discussions and workshops with customers, understand their business and technical requirements to create the desired technical architectures and solutions on Cloud around data engineering, data lakes, data lakehouses, BI and ML/AI.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and strategic advisor on Cloud and Data Management topics to senior executives and their management teams, providing best practices within and outside of the organization.
  • Actively drive the technical topics with internal platform and IT teams (Cloud Infra, BI teams, ML/AI teams) around cloud data Lakehouse platforms, engineering and emerging technologies to bring awareness as well as shape the requirements and solutions required for group wide adoption and scaling of those cloud infra platforms. 
  • Manage the transition of the Group’s on-premise data to the Cloud, ensuring compatibility between existing infrastructure/applications and the target Cloud environment.
  • Perform analysis of best practices and emerging concepts in Cloud based technologies with special focus on Data and Analytics cloud Ecosystem and build new concepts and designs relevant for the DHL Group.
  • Lead PoCs, prototypes and build MVPs for new innovative solutions and technology scouting on cloud (Azure, GCP) and Big Data Technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Object storages (ADLS Gen2), Databricks, kafka, open table formats like Delta lake or Iceberg).
  • Mentor and coach the management team and team leaders and highly skilled experts in Cloud, Data Management, analytics, big data, and AI technologies.

Do you have what it takes?
  • University degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a comparable field.
  • Over 10 years of relevant professional experience, including at least 5 years in a technical data engineering leadership role designing robust and scalable Big Data Solution Architectures.
  • Strong knowledge of Cloud Data Architecture methods and variations, including streaming analytics, lambda architecture, and delta lakes.
  • In-depth understanding of best practices in Data Lakes, Data Engineering, and Machine Learning Engineering lifecycle management.
  • Strong know-how and experience in software development and one or more programming languages like python, scala, rust, etc. 
  • Very good knowledge of DevOps and Scrum best practices for managing diverse platform and implementation teams.
  • Significant experience in strategic analysis, identifying key trends, developing corresponding business and service product solutions, and successfully implementing large-scale data and analytics platforms, such as group-wide data lakes.
  • Strong background in managing complex multi-project environments and a demonstrated track record of collaborating with high-level stakeholders, including C-suite executives.
  • Extensive practical experience in designing, managing, and successfully delivering complex projects concurrently, with proven experience leading international teams.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills and ability to communicate complex technical solutions to business stakeholders.
